Stuff I put in that poll:

Elvis:

1. Back in the day, shortly after Elvis Presley died, I painted a sweatshirt for myself, spoofing the "Elvis Sightings" phenomena. I was wondering if I should bring back that design, adapted to an LJ icon.



2. It also happens (though I did not realize it until later) that Wil Wheaton posted a review of an Elvis Costello concert on the same day. Synchronicity FTW!

Nightmares:

I had a fire-nightmare, yesterday morning (in a hotel in London, and my room had caught fire, and I was there with my two cats. And Mom was there, and Dad was back from the dead, but he'd come back with Downs Syndrome, or something). Fire nightmares are unusual for me; usually, when I'm feeling overwhelmed, it's Outrageous!Water that I have to deal with. And I usually like being naked in my dreams.

Bring back from the Past:

1. Matchmakers: I gave up on Online Matchmaking services years ago. My lonliness and sense of being trapped (unless I change something) has got me contemplating using them again. But I hate trying to write a descriptive paragraph about myself (how do I be self-flattering and honest at the same time?), and how do I trust the descriptive paragraphs written by my potential matches? I think it would be great if those paragraphs were written by friends who like you, but probably don't think you're as fantastic as you think you are -- like letters of recommendation to universities ... that's not exactly matchmaking, but it got me thinking.



2. Street Trolleys: Just thinking about how ubiquitous they were, in American cities, until the nacent Oil companies lobbied to have those cities rip up the tracks. The cost of oil and what we can do to get away from it was all over NPR, in my ears, yesterday.



3. "Thee," "Thou" and "You" (done right): The word geek in me wants this back, liek whoa. The very existance of "Y'all" and "All Y'all" kind of proves that we need some sort of distinction between singular and plural second person.
   
   And besides, should "I love _____, sweetie-punkin!" use the exact same pronoun as "_____ are hereby ordered to appear before the court"? I don't think so! Different meanings entirely, really.



4. Soda / Ice Cream Fountains: The world needs more 'Dusty Millers' and 'Purple Cows'. Period.



5. Hats and Gloves in public: Hattitude of days past is a glorious thing. That is all.

Those mythic beasts deserve posts of their own...

Re: Matchmakers- I hear folks are overall having better luck with eHarmony than with Match.com. They ask a lot more questions (filling out the online forms takes forever), and they sometimes even turn applicants down, but the end results from eHarmony seem to be more well chosen.
