The nebulous notion for this icon has been slowly coalescing in my cerebrum for a while, now. But I couldn't make up my mind to actually make it...

And then, [livejournal.com profile] snowgrouse posted an entry about homemade buckwheat pancakes with strawberries. And the last shred of resistance disintergrated.

One of the things about my trips to New York since Dad got sick, has been that we stay in hotels... Hotels have cable ... So I get to see shows I never get to see at home ...

(Don't worry, this is not as big a non-seguitor as it appears)

During this last trip up, we basically parked the set on the Food Network.

On one of the shows, there was a recipe for homemade "Cola" (even though it has no actual cola bean in it):* a sugar syrup flavored with coffee, lemon zest, and vanilla.

Hmm.

  • Coffee

  • Lemon

  • Vanilla

You do know what single, common-denominator flavor each of those flavors just love, don't you?

Chocolate!

(And yeah, cherry's good, too...)

So why haven't we seen a chocolate cola, yet? Hm?

*Although, to be fair, there's no mashed up root of the Marsh Mallow in marshmallows, any more, either...

There was a store up here that had chocolate cherry cola for a little while. They didn't have it very long, though.

One of my favourite party drinks (at least when my sweet tooth is acting up) is cola with creme de cacao and cherry brandy.

boy -- that sounds ... rich.

As for the chocolate cherry cola not lasting very long is that chocolate is good with any one of those flavors, but with all three, it may be just a bit overwhelming.

But I reserve to make my own version with all four flavors, where I can tweak each one to get the balance just right (and making it fizzy by stirring in a spoon of baking soda). I imagine I'd really lighten up on the coffee, and emphesize the vanilla and lemon.

(or make it a float with lemon sherbert)

Shasta makes a diet chocolate cola, or did once.

I may be a lunatic. But I'm not a lone one ...

I've seen chocolate cola. The weirdest stuff, however, has to be *cappuccino* cola. Or cappuccino cider (!) which I've both seen on the shelves here, and tasted. Mostly... odd.

Or cappuccino cider

That sounds like something from an old sitcom from the Eighties, here, called The Drew Carey Show. The best friends got together and created their own home brewery called "Buzz Beer," where they mixed coffee with their beer, so they could keep drinking without falling asleep...
