Yes, I've been working on this all along (mostly by muddling through with it in my head; been having a slight panic attack of writer's block whenever I try to commit anything to definitive words).

The general idea I have is to write a song of praise prayer to Freya/Frigga, without actually naming Her by name, but the "Goddess of the Distaff" (aka "Orion's Belt," as I wrote about in a recent post), and expressing awe at the complexity of Her tapestry of Life, and wondering about my small place within it.

As the words were not coming (easily), I decided to break with my usual habit and try composing the melody, first. But the tune's being a trickster, too. The program I use for composing, "Noteworthy Composer," gives me two different names for the scale that I'm using: B flat Major, and g minor; but the melody doesn't want to end on either a G or a B (I'm not exactly sure it wants to end on a C, either, but it's content enough with that to at least let me sleep on it). So I know it must be in a different mode, with a different name. But I'll be damned if I know what that name is.

Is there a table online somewhere where I could look up the proper name?

There used to be site that had a simple table that organized the different scales and modes; and it listed the number of sharps and flats in the scale in the first column, then it had the names of the modes in rows going across, and you could match up the tune you had with the right mode by just counting down and across until you found the key that matched your ending note. I used to have it bookmarked, and I referred to it all the time. But the site is long defunct, and I've yet to find a replacement.

Anyway -- if you're interested, what I've got written so far is below; feedback appreciated, even if it's not technical.

To get your computer to play this, copy the emboldened code below, and paste it into the text window at Concertina.net's ABC Convert-A-Matic (might be easier to right-click, to open in a new window) and click [submit]. This will lead you to another page with the link "Midi Music File;" click that, and your computer should play this tune for you automatically. If it doesn't, you might want to try turning off any pop-up blockers.
