So. The cast of Numb3rs has a cast of eight regulars; only two of those regulars are women. Okay, technically, there're three, but one of the three has quit her job with the FBI, and has become a guest-appearer.
That's 25% -- A hair less that half of any real life demographic.
Now, I do give props to the show in that the women on the show, when they do talk to each other, actually pass the Bechdel-Wallace Test: they talk about the crime they're investigating, and math, and sciencey stuff. So it's yayful.
But...
[dramatic "Dum-doom-doom" chords]
At the end of last Friday's episode, one of the two women was violently kidnapped, just as she was kissing the male lead, screaming and begging for rescue as she was dragged away by masked thugs, like any ordinary damsel-in-distress.
And the highlights of the "Next Episode" strongly imply that someone will die. And I really doubt that someone will be the male lead.
Of course, highlights of upcoming episodes are often deliberately misleading. But still... I have a bad feeling about this.
