My faith in Numb3rs has been retained...
May. 16th, 2009 02:36 pmSo, the cliff-hanger at the end of last week's episode left me with so much dread about all the ways it could go wrong and/or jump-the-shark that I couldn't bear to watch it. I decided to tune in only for the last five minutes, to see the denouement. If there were signs of fail in the closing scenes, I could painlessly wash my hands of its future, and move on. If the final scenes had dignity and intelligence, then I could look forward to watching the repeat at the end of the summer, before the new season starts.
I'll be looking forward to the repeat. :-)
And, for future reference, just so I'll know who I'd be sparing from spoilers, a poll:

Date: 2009-05-16 08:21 pm (UTC)It tells the story of two brothers: older brother is an FBI agent, younger brother is a math prodigy who entered university at age 14 or some such, is now in his thirties, and teaching higher mathmatics at CalSci university. They Solve crime! Using Real Math!* There's also quantum physics and occassional philosophy thrown in.
*(which I let flow past my brain in the same way I let the technobabble in Doctor Who flow past my brain)

So -- shall I put you down as answering "Every Week, but Time-delayed," then?
And if so: have you seen either of this week's or last's episodes, yet?

b) I like Don's conclusion that "God is there in the way we're there for each other." I was kinda / sorta worried that when he started going to Temple, this season, the conclusion would end up being something like: "Only faith in God can save you from being a cynical meanie!" (which is often how it's handled in other tv shows).

Well, really, that's what the show's always been about, and what we've always liked about it.

Date: 2009-05-19 05:06 pm (UTC)Ghost Whisperer has never been been on my favorites list, but I've watched a few episodes, now and then. In it's first season/s, it, too, was mostly about the importance of people's relationships with each other in the here and now. But it has gradually (and not so gradually) moved closer to the old "individual souls as pawns between God and Satan," for... I don't know.. an increased Cosmic Angst factor? Now, I actively avoid the program, but I get the sense of this switch through the "Upcoming episodes" promos they air throughout the week. And every time I see one I can't help but wonder if the writers are actively seeking out new sharks to jump, really.
