Update on my blogspot blog:
Dec. 8th, 2009 06:28 pmIt only has two posts, so far, and I'm still tweaking the settings. I'm tweaking the settings, why? Because Google, which runs Blogger, seems to have lumped me in with medical blogs, or with parents of autistic kids (That's what comes up whenever I click their "next blog" link, in Blogger's nav bar, which is supposed to lead you to another blog that covers a related topic as your own). And if it's not autism, it's early onset alzheimers, or support for stuttering (In India), or school psychologists' network, and the like (hence my WTF icon).
So I've been tugging on different bits to see if I can get grouped with storytelling folks, instead. I don't know what their alogorithm is picking up on... At first, I thought it was because, of the six blogs I'd listed as "following," three just happen to touch on deafness as one of many topics (and how odd/wrong/full of fail is it to conflate deafness with cognitive difficulties? The issue is audism, twits, not autism!). But I un-followed those, and I'm still stuck in that loop. Maybe it's the word "Heart" in the title ("heart" = "medical" and / or sentimentality about "special children")? It's creepy when I get lumped with "special ed" by people standing in front of me. It's even creepier when it's done by a bot (that's maybe making its decisions because of cookies).
Anyway, I'll try to post fairly regularly (at the very least, twice a month, if not every day), and I'll try to keep it more or less seasonal. Specifically Christmas/winter tales are easy pin to a calender, but others just strike me as evocotive of other seasons, too. And when I'm stumped for a story, I'll pull a word from the dictionary, to discuss more obscure definitions and etymologies. There's always a word for something.
Oh, and here's the post I made yesterday: Two versions of the Tale of the Christmas Spider

Date: 2009-12-09 12:54 am (UTC)And besides, not all cookies are created equal. There is, on one side, the glory that is a pecan slice (you have not lived, until you've tasted). And then, there are those stale, store-bought (faux) butter cookies, with a glob of fossilized jam in the middle.
Oh, and did you know that the monster who would eventually evolve into Cookie appeared in IBM corporate films, early on, chomping down on computers?

Date: 2009-12-09 01:03 am (UTC)The last time I hit Next Blog I had Portuguese language blogs on all sides. Now, I have mentioned a person of Portuguese descent and a Portuguese phrase (which I got wrong), but I've brought up Czech three times and was not lumped with Praha Porn.
Christmas Spider stories were lovely.

Date: 2009-12-09 01:54 am (UTC)My biggest gripe is there is no "previous blog" link, so I can't get a gander at people who are finding me by accident, and scratching their heads in puzzlement. I am curious...
Republicans? Oh, dear. My condolensces.
I'm glad you liked the stories. :-)
