capri0mniSo I'm spending the day getting ready -- committing my poem to memory, doing laundry of the clothes I want to take with me, and doing the dishes, so my kitchen will be neat for company... Yes, pretty much simultaneously.
Not doing the Thanksgiving ritual as most people in my country are, tonight (gathering with relatives you don't see except for today, and eating triptophen-laden meat until you fall asleep)...
But I am thinking of alll the things I'm greatful for:
The sun, and its light, that even on a cold day like this, makes my kitchen warm and cozy.
The energy from gas and coal (which is really just the sun's energy fermented a couple billion years) which kicks in when the sun's direct heat is not enough.
That I have enough money to pay my gas and electric bills.
That I have food, which is not only sustaining, but yummy.
That I can feel joy and love, and share both of those things with others.
That I have the Internet, on which to meet and know many wonderful people.
That I have the mind and intelligence to imagine the best of the world, both as it is, and as it could be.
That I have the creative talent to express what my imagination and intelligence can dream up.
That there are people who appreciate my talent, and find comfort in the things I have written and said.

A friend of mine works for a New Age/Pagan supply company, and on a recent company retreat, she learned the following prayer -- she was told it was a prayer from the time of the ancient druids. Whether that is true or not is not as important as the sentiment it expresses:
In the presence of my people
back to the beginning of life,
In the witness of the gods
and the ungods,
in homage to the immense
generosity of the universe
I give thanks
before my portion.
Tonight, my "portion" does not include turkey and sweet potato pie. But it does include all the things I listed above.... And it's leaving me feeling very, very full indeed,
