So, this is a Sign, perhaps?
Sep. 25th, 2012 07:43 pmLines that came to me as I was last getting ready for bed:
(Quote)
If my grief over Mother's death were a person,
This would be the year it could buy its first drink

Announcement in today's Rolling around in my head blog post:

Rolling Around in My Head will be hosting October's Disability Blog Carnival - the subject is 'Birthdays, Anniversaries or other days of Remembering or Celebration.'

You know? I think that twinge I just felt was my muse elbowing me in the ribs...

Date: 2012-09-28 04:55 pm (UTC)It's a bit trickier, now... now that I'm planning on submitting it to a Disability Culture-centric event, because I feel the need to use themes of disability and disability rights as the string that ties the whole bundle of memories together...
It's already there, a little bit, because this is something I've experienced, and I am disabled, so I can't avoid it. But for that aspect to be one of the focal points, rather than a fuzzy outline of something in the background...
This thought (phrase or couplet, what have you) came to me on the tail of my posts about why grim literature is seen as more serious and worthy of the label "art" than happy literature, and remembering the books I was required to read in grad school, and thinking: "that was 21 years ago... 21 years?! Yikes!" So I'm also trying to work the whole dystopia / utopia theme in, too.
And still make it a single poem, that the mind can grasp as being about just one subject...
