A CRIPPLED CHILD WATCHES THE T.V.
(or: “Why I am a fan of 'Doctor Who'”)

I learned to tell a story at age two
(Propped up between my parents on the couch
With season one of “Star Trek” on the screen) …
At least, I learned the pacing of suspense.
Unable, as I was, to run away,
I'd listen for the changing music. Then
I'd plug my ears, and close my eyes up tight
And wait until the scary moment passed.
I never feared the slime, or scales, or claws;
It was the lasers' flash and angry shouts
That always happened – every episode –
As soon as any “creature” came on-screen.
Did I understand, as young as that,
That I was, too, a monster in their eyes?
My diff'rence, too, was something that they feared?

Why I'll never Cosplay as Davros

Bwahahahaha! Unfortunately, I doubt if most people would get the joke. ::wryface::

I did ALL the things today (and yesterday!) so I could hypothetically go out and have fun tomorrow but it's going to be hot (for me) and my brain doesn't want to decide in favour of any of the nearest three walks: long countryside (hide under tree at midday and read), up cathedral tower (choice of two, probably the one with less than 270 steps!), or potter about in urban area of architectural interest (and hide in cafe at midday).

I need to acclimatise to the summer heat as it increases, alas. My brain concurs with yours, which means you've also chosen my reading material because the lightest book on my To Read pile for a long walk is Polish poetry in translation.

You'll be amused to know that I rolled out of bed this morning, took one look at the mighty power of the evil daystar, and went back to bed (although I did get up again an hour later to start the washing machine because one must do ALL the things!). ::wryface::

Maybe tomorrow, heh.

Well, the washing is hung up, but I've realised I still have to go out and pay my rent today (20 min walk) if I want tomorrow free cos I'm not queuing in the bank on Saturday morning.

/this morning's moaning has been brought to you by the fact I ache all over for no reason, including brain-ache, and (as you already surmised) am short on sleep

Thanks for listening, bb. //will stop moaning now ::stiffens upper lip::
