1) Over the past year, thanks to having physicians, physical therapists, and respite care workers visiting my home, there have been several relative strangers looking at pictures on shelves. I cannot tell you how disconcerting it is to have people see pictures of my mother and confuse her for me, to the point of doing the full-on double-take, and asking me when it was that I could ever stand independently, and that straight. ...Especially since, to my eye, we look so different (I mean, I see a resemblance -- I have her eyebrows. But she had a different jawline, and higher cheekbones, and, and, and...).
2) I've now got that song "Bang Your Drum" stuck in my head. I'm wondering what its lyrics mean; is "You won't make your mind up for me" the flip side of the line from "On Top of Old Smoky": "I lost my poor lover for courting so slow" ?? If so, it's got to be one of the cheeriest breakup songs ever written.
3) My resolution for 2014 was to adapt my Plato's Nightmare/Aesop's Dream blog into a book, and self-publish it. I didn't do that, but I did start work on a collection of memoir-ish poems on disability and culture. Didn't finish it within the year... But I've gotten far enough along to be able to imagine its final shape. That's close enough to count as keeping my resolution, right? I mean, I didn't forget about it, or give up on it.
4) I'm typing with a small black, purring, cat on my arms.
5) This is pretty darn cool:
