Still, I like how the fur turned out (I made it in Windows Paint using the "oil brush" against one color background, and then filled in the background using a lighter tint of the same hue). The g-clef is from the musical notation font included with my Noteworthy2 program... I recently discovered I can use it like other fonts in other programs, so...

I think so, too... There's just something about fur -- particularly shaggy fur -- that triggers the "Aw!!" response. :-)

That's a clever use of MSPaint. Have you heard of paint.net? My niece uses it marvelously. It has lots of Photoshop type tools, such as layers. It's free, and up to date for Win8.

I'll check it out. ...But to be honest, the last time I tried to follow a Photoshop tutorial, it felt like my brain wanted to turn inside out...

Me too! But I do like the layers/transparency thing and magic wand for blending.

Heh! It was precisely the layers and transparency bits that made me want to throw things... Though it could have just been a badly written tutorial.

Excellent fur; icon fills a definite need in my discourses.

I wasn't expecting the two-tone effect with the fur (it only happened because the spaces between the "brush texture lines" were too small for the color to flow in from the "fill bucket"). But because the only variable I changed with the replacement color was the lightness, it (pleasantly) surprised me with a "light filtered through hair" effect.
