During the debates last night, I had the urge to write another letter to the editor,* but I had to make sure that the other letter I sent hadn't been published. So I double-checked. And lo, and behold! It was published -- this past Tuesday, with only minor tweaking. So now, I have to find another outlet for my outrage.
*Bush pointed out that the Afghans are registering to vote in record numbers, including 41% of them women, but he failed to mention (surprise, surprise) that election monitors are afraid to go there and ensure the voting is fair because of all the warlords with guns, If it's not safe for the monitors, how can it be safe for the voters? The only thing more dangerous than a dictator is a dictator who can falsely claim the legitimacy of democracy.

Date: 2004-10-01 07:50 pm (UTC)Bush seemed to smirk and roll his eyes at least half the time that Kerry was speaking (and I'm being generous), as if he were some snot-nosed kid mouthing "Blah, blah, blah" behind the teacher's back.
Kerry paid attention to everything Bush said, and treated the president with respect.
So. You registered to vote?
Re: Hee!
Date: 2004-10-01 08:14 pm (UTC)I've only just registered this morning. I missed the debate last night, as I was working on my projects and forgot the time -- I still need to figure out who's running, who's saying what, doing what, et cetera, but I will be voting this year! :D
(I did notice in the above link that Kerry was jotting down notes while Bush was talking...)

But Kerry was taking what the president was saying seriously, and taking notes. Bush picked up his pen occasionally, too. But he seemed (I couldn't exactly peek over his shoulder) to be just crossing stuff off a list.
Kerry may have said the same message over and over, but at least he used different words each time. Bush's message seemed pre-recorded...

And on Voting: Neat thing about the election year, the major candidates all have websites, and so it's easier to "click n' compare" (reminds self to do that for her congressional and senate races... though I'll probably just vote the Democratic ticket.
