Tonight, on PBS, on Scientific American Frontiers the focus was on all the new things hot new inventers were inventing, like a laser machine that would cut out all the parts needed to build your own bicycles, and the like -- so that you would just say, buy a camera online, and have it mailed to you -- you could download a camera... stuff like that.

Supposedly, they have the different segments online, so you can watch them that way, but every time I put my mouse in that region of the screen, I get a "script error" pop-up.

Grr!

[livejournal.com profile] gordon_r_d, if you can get it to work, check out the segment on "Toy Symphony"... as I was watching it, I kept thinking: "oooh, Shiny!!! Gordon would have a blast with those Beat Bugs!" (so would I, as a matter of fact... ;-})

Unfortunately (but very predictibly), the homepage of the inventor featured in "Toy Symphony" is down due to too much web traffic... but I will definitely try again (maybe next week, when it's no longer being highlighted....

Here is an image of the "Beat Bugs" I thought [livejournal.com profile] gordon_r_d would enjoy -- Aren't they cute?

You tap out an experimental rhythm on the "bug's" back (which lights up, btw). Then you can adjust the pitch with one "antenna," and elaborate the rhythm with the other... when you're happy with the result, you can zap it into the hard drive of your computer, or have a "rhythm battle" with another beat bug user...

Neat, huh?
