A Gotham Holiday Moment from [personal profile] chronographia

Tom Smith sings his fannish re-working of "The Cat Went Fiddle-I-Fee", with running ASL interpretation by Judi Miller from [livejournal.com profile] pedanther. I laughed so hard I gave myself a headache. The laugh did more good than the headache did harm; it was a more than fair trade.
As Tom Smith himself said: "That was worth diamonds, man!"

The lai of Bisclavret's Wife from [livejournal.com profile] angevin2 (Rated T for violence; Marie de France Bisclavret). I'm actually re-gifting this one, as it's a Yuletide fic written for [livejournal.com profile] angevin2. This story gives a lot of (acurate) period detail (12th. C. Europe), and actually answers all the WTF?! questions the original left me with.

In other news, I really wish I had a digital camera, right now, so I could share the o_O scene out my window.

...

On the other hand, an ordinary camera would probably start flaily wildly in its little digital heart, trying to cope with the utter wierdness out there. A cyborg camera, linked directly to both my optic nerve and frontal cortex would probably work better; that way I could just look out the window, plug myself into my computer's usb port, and just upload what I'm seeing, directly.

I love you all, you know. I hope you know. Thank you so much for your friendship and patience.

Okay, I know I said no embeds for a while... (two days is "a while," isn't it?), but dammit, this is the best way I know to give my f'list a hug.

Last night, [livejournal.com profile] angevin2 posted a link to this song (Hard Times, Come again no More, by Stephen Foster -- yup, the Camptown Races dude). And that's what I'm saying now, for all my friends: "Hard Times! You leave my buddies alone! Go on! Git! And don't you come back!"

Then, after that, I went searching for a vid of my favorite Cheer-Myself-Up-Song: Swimming to the Other Side by Pat Humphries. I was hoping to find a vid of her singing it, but mostly, what I found were multiple vids of one high school choir practicing it for performance (doing an arrangement of the Lui Collins' cover, which has a descant). And then, I found this, of two mature men (no voices cracking), singing in two part harmony, with guitar... And I have a soft spot for men with accoustic guitars.

Here:

*Squish* I Love you people. I wish I could take all your pain, and worry, and frustation away, and fix your plumbing, and give you chocolate, and a time machine journey to the place of your choosing.

But I can't. So I hope I can give you a gentle, sweet, earworm, instead...

^Points to icon^ This is, reading from left to right: Me, Myself, and I.

EEE! I've just started skimming through it*, and reading a bit of the preface, and it looks like great fun. I'll have to put it on the shelf next to its European counterpart, that I've been using as a reference for almost 30 years: A Field Guide to the Little People. I love this kind of thing!

And, let's all hope this gift will be like bringing your raincoat to the picnic, and having it to hand for protection will keep the nasties, both literal and figurative, away from me this coming year.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

*For those of you who couldn't see me while I was opening the package, "it" is Yokai Attack! The Japanese Monster Survival Guide by Hiroko Yoda and Matt Alt, illustrations (which are beautiful, btw) by Tatsuya Morino.

First, I must say that my worst habit is treating my mailbox as Dirk Gently treats his refrigerator. Yes, I know that is Not Good.

Anyway, yesterday, I finally got through sorting out all the spam, and snuggled in amongst the unpleasant and the inane, was a package from [livejournal.com profile] alryssa; she sent me a spare disk of Photoshop she doesn't need anymore.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

I haven't tried it yet, because I have one of those Stupid-making headaches, and I'm not up to even attempting to learn anything new today, no matter how straight forward. But I just wanted to say Thanks.

She also sent me a dvd of the first season of Due South. I am familiar with the series -- Dad and I would watch it together when it first aired. I just haven't seen it since then, and my memory is foggy. I think it was Dad who found it first, and got me watching.

It will be odd watching it without him here, I think... And again, I'm reminded how sorry I am that you guys never got a chance to meet him, or he you. *sigh*.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] alryssa also sent a very lovely card. And for those who only know her through words on the monitor, let me tell you: she has lovely handwriting. :-)
